How Close Are We to War with Russia?

I don’t know how many people out there place much stock in Lyndon LaRouche. Me personally, I’ve never exactly been a loyal or dedicated reader of his. But in the past few days, LaRouche has been warning that a nuclear war between the US and Russia is getting very close, and may in fact break out as early as this summer.

Here is part of what he posted two days ago on the matter:

“If Obama remains in power during the onset of the Fourth of July, a general world war will be oncoming actually soon. That’s what we’re faced with. And people think about different areas, different problems, different policies. They have to realize that there is a global policy, a unified global policy, which has to be recognized. There may be local events, but the real events which are important are the ones which are the threat of the extinction of the human species.

“And what is happening in this process, under Obama–if Obama is not removed soon, the implication is that, within a month or so, or something like that, events are going to tumble in, and we are going to have a thermonuclear, global war. And from that, the problem is that there will probably be no outcome, except death.”

I suspect a war between NATO and Russia probably will come at some point. However, to me it seems less likely to occur this summer than at a point a bit further down the road, after Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton take over. But I’ve been wrong before, and certainly I could be wrong this time. Consider, for instance, the map above.

The red balloon marks the Russian oblast of Kaliningrad. Kaliningrad is a little piece of Russian territory wedged in between Poland and Lithuania that is entirely separated from the rest of Russia. And now it seems that the two NATO countries surrounding it may have plans to annex it.

NATO is Ready to Snatch Kaliningrad from Russia–Lithuanian Media

A group of hackers broke into the system of the main office of the Lithuanian Armed Forces late Wednesday and found out that the little Baltic nation has big plans — to snatch Russia’s Kaliningrad region, Lithuanian news portal Delfi reported.

Later, the information was quickly removed from the website of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. A spokesperson of the country’s Defense Ministry said the incident was a hacker attack and currently all details are being investigated.

Meanwhile, around 2,100 servicemen from nine NATO member states grouped in the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) are taking part in military exercises in northwestern Poland.

Later this summer, “Allied Shield” will be also held in Poland and involve 14,000 troops from 19 NATO members and three partner nations.

Do the people presently running the US (and by that I don’t mean Obama, but the people he answers to) really want war with Russia? About all I can say with any certainty is that they sure act like they do.

  1. Kaliningrad, as you might suspect, is one big Russian military base. I think even the dumbos at NATO would think twice about “annexing” it.

  2. Well, the thing to remember is that the dumbos actually want war. Peace isn’t on their agenda.

  3. “In a significant move to deter possible Russian aggression in Europe, the Pentagon is poised to store battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons for as many as 5,000 American troops in several Baltic and Eastern European countries, American and allied officials say.”

  4. Yeah, so I hear. All to “defend” our NATO allies, of course. Might be a good time to pay up your life insurance. On the other hand, there might not be anybody left around to collect it.

  5. I believe its time the US had the cold water of reality thrown its face and wake up,even the Romans drew a line round the borders of its empire, its time to accept Russia and China as equal partners and that global hegemony is no longer a achievable goal(good article)

  6. Well, what’s clear is that neither Russia or China want war with the US. It is America and its NATO allies that are escalating tensions. My guess is we will probably at some point see either a war or a Western economic collapse, one or the other. Russia and China, I would say, are hoping for the latter but preparing for the former.
