Is Hollywood Set to Fan Flames of Racial Hatred with New Release?

The film “Birth of a Nation” is set for release in October. Judging from the trailer, the film portrays whites as evil and blacks as the embodiment of all good. Also, no doubt intentionally, it bears the same name, “Birth of a Nation,” as a movie released in 1915.

That movie, 100 years ago, portrayed the same racial stereotypes–only in reverse.

My question is this: why would Hollywood choose to release such a film now? Tensions are of course escalating in America, and have been, over police killings of African-Americans–and now we are seeing police officers gunned down in what apparently are racially motivated attacks. Is a film of this nature, released at this time, likely to promote peace and understanding?

Or is Hollywood trying to ignite a race war in America?
