Confessions of a Former Christian Zionist

We Hold These Truths has posted a podcast with former Christian Zionist Craig Hanson, who as a young Christian became indoctrinated into the Christian Zionist teachings of a church he was attending. Later he began to see the light when he met some Palestinian Christians. In the podcast, Hanson tells his story, and it’s definitely worth a listen.

The following is from the program description:

Christian Zionism beliefs influence over 40 million American Christians. We Hold These Truths‘ California Outreach Director, Craig Hanson, has been a dedicated follower of Jesus for over 40 years. During most of that time, Craig was deceived by the Christian Zionist belief that the modern state of Israel is a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy and that this doctrine was never to be challenged by a dedicated, true believing, premillenial dispensationalist (PMD) Christian. To do or say anything against Israel and its actions toward Palestinians would be a sin against God, according to Christian Zionist dogma. Craig reveals how, over three years ago, he was challenged to re-evaluate his Christian Zionists beliefs that led him to realize that they are very divisive and dangerous to followers of Jesus Christ, and, everyone else. Craig’s story is most revealing and eyeopening. To gain further insight into Christian Zionism, be sure to watch our award winning documentary, “Christian Zionism: The Tragedy & The Turning, Part I“ and, listen to our interview with Pastor Rob Dalrymple about his book, “These Brothers of Mine: A Biblical Theology of Land and Family and a Response to Christian Zionism.” (40 mins.)

  1. Thank you for the important work achieved at Fig Trees and Vineyards. The New Christian Zionism is something that I need to learn more about; I look forward to this podcast. Please know that your efforts are appreciated and much needed.

  2. Watched a special on CZ’s in Israel awhile back. They were in their tour bus, getting ready to visit some place in Jerusalem. Their tour guide was telling them to NOT bring along your Bibles or to mention Jesus Christ to any Jews, as that gets them irate.
The whole bus looked like bobble-head dolls, all dutifully shaking their heads in the affirmative.

Not sure, but thought I heard a cock crow three times.

  3. Thank you all for your comments. I think Christian Zionists need to re-read the Sermon on the Mount and ask themselves if anything Jesus taught in that speech even remotely applies to the modern-day state of Israel.
