A bit earlier today I put up a post entitled Texas City Demands Hurricane Victims Pledge not to Boycott Israel if They Want to Receive Aid. The post discusses the city of Dickinson, Texas and its policy of requiring those hit by Hurricane Harvey to certify that they do not boycott Israel in order to receive assistance through a city-administered relief fund. Since putting up that post, I came across the following video.
You can access the Dickinson website here. Those who think the city’s policy is a blatant violation of the First Amendment might want to consider contacting Dickinson Mayor Julie Masters. Her office phone is 281-337-6202. Her cell phone is 832-820-9816, and you can email her at: firstname.lastname@example.org . If you do contact her, please be civil and polite.
As I mentioned in my previous post, and as the video above also mentions, the controversy that now seems to be engulfing this small Texas municipality comes following the approval of an anti-BDS measure by the Texas state government earlier this year. Not surprisingly, Christian Zionists had a hand in campaigning for the bill’s passage. You can read more about that here. The article also mentions that the bill passed the Texas House of Representatives by a vote of 131-0.
