The North Korea that Neither Trump nor the Western Media Want You to See

Pyongyang’s Science and Technology Center is an expansive structure heated by geothermal energy, and with drip irrigation-watered live grass on inside walls. Its more than 3,000 computers are solar powered, the library has books in 12 foreign languages, and a long-distance learning program enables people from around the country to study and earn a degree equivalent to that of in-university studies.

“North Korea (the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or DPRK) is one of the least understood and most lied about countries on Earth.”

Those are the words of independent journalist Eva Bartlett, who recently made a trip to North Korea and who has posted a very informative, eye-opening article on her experience. The piece includes some truly stunning photos, as well as links to some equally stunning videos that Bartlett has posted on You Tube. Suffice to say, the media’s portrayal of North Korea as a backwards country is utterly misleading. In reality it is anything but backwards.

  1. Eva Bartlett is a great journalist, whether she reports with courage and depth from Syria or North Korea. I have unmatched admiration for her and anticipate much more excellence from her. Thanks to Fig Trees and Vineyards for this post.
