The so-called “Ulchi-Freedom Guardian” war games, an exercise involving tens of thousands of US and South Korean troops, are to get underway tomorrow–curiously on the same day a major solar eclipse will slice across the US.
“A US strike against North Korea may go against common logic, but when a country is governed by propaganda – and the United States are going through such a period – political decisions go beyond rational logic, and there we can have consequences that are hard to foresee.”
–Russian Major General Pavel Zolotarev
Two days ago President Trump threatened to send “fire and fury like the world has never seen” raining down upon North Korea. The following day he said that that warning may not have been “tough enough.” Now, on Friday, he is tweeting that the US is “locked and loaded” for an attack.
[ Ed. note – During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Moscow, RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan delivered a speech in which she discussed the role of the Western media in fomenting wars. Specifically, the media serve as a “press artillery,” effectively engaging in “precision bombing,” she said, remarking also that “not a single war in recent years started” without propagandistic barrages of this sort.
[ Ed. note – Despite a seemingly cordial meeting Wednesday between Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, tensions between the two countries remain high. Reports have come out in recent weeks (see here for instance) that Russian military officials are now convinced the US is planning a nuclear first strike against Russia. The ramifications of this are discussed in three articles below. One of the writers, Paul Craig Roberts, takes it to the personal level: if you’ve reached the conclusion that someone, despite your best efforts at making peace with them, is plotting to kill you, what do you do?
[ Ed. note – perhaps one day some of the Palestinian children shown in this video will grow up and have the opportunity to use their newly-learned techniques on the Israeli soldiers occupying their land. One can always wish. By the way, Saturday, January 28, will mark the beginning of the Year of the Rooster. According to this source, “Rooster is the tenth in the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac sign. The Years of the Rooster include 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, 2029…Rooster is almost the epitome of fidelity and punctuality. For ancestors who had no alarm clocks, the crowing was significant, as it could awaken people to get up and start to work. In Chinese culture, another symbolic meaning of chicken carries is exorcising evil spirits. ]
It looks like Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has had enough of America. The following is from the L.A. Times:
[Ed. note – The author of the following piece provides an excellent analysis of a joint statement issued June 25 by the presidents of Russia and China during their meeting in Beijing. The two countries have formed an alliance aimed at counteracting what appear to be efforts by US neocons to ignite World War III. And those efforts seem to be continuing as we speak. As evidence, see the video below, or simply consider the fact that Hillary Clinton has compared President Putin to Hitler and that certain neocons such as Robert Kagan are in effect pulling out all the stops to get her elected.
