Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) introduced the “Promoting Human Rights by Ending Israeli Military Detention of Palestinian children Act.”
By Richard Edmondson
Alan Dershowitz, former Harvard law professor and pro-Israel to the core, apparently thinks Rep. Betty McCollum has committed a cardinal sin–introducing a bill that calls for monitoring of Israel’s treatment of Palestinian child prisoners.

Brig. Gen. (res.) Ilan Malka was recently appointed deputy chief commissioner of the Israel Prison Service and then promoted to commissioner (a rank parallel to major general in the Israel Defense Forces). As someone who has been exonerated for the killing of Palestinian civilians, both beforehand and retroactively, no one is more worthy to move to the top of the pyramid of the Israeli jailers corps.
Eight Years On: Gaza’s Still Fresh Wound
Palestine Information Center
Eight years have passed since Israel launched its war on the Gaza Strip, known as the battle of the Furqan, and named by Israel “Operation Cast Lead.” the Gaza Strip is still suffering from the consequences of that war, which lasted for 23 days.
The video above shows us what the people of Gaza are living through currently as the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act of 2016 makes its way through Congress. The bill, which passed the Senate on December 1, would codify into law a definition of anti-Semitism that includes attempts to “demonize” Israel or hold it to a “double standard.” By the way, the “caravans” referred to in the video are portable buildings made of metal–basically what we would refer to in the United States as “mobile homes,” although I gather that the caravans given to Palestinians in Gaza do not quite meet the same safety standards as the mobile homes sold in the US.
“They don’t want our pity, but they do welcome our solidarity.”
–Dr. Mads Gilbert
By Jeff Smith
Dr. Mads Gilbert, author of the books, Eyes in Gaza and Night in Gaza, in which he describes what it was like to work under the bombs with Palestinian colleagues during Israel’s 2008 – 2009 and 2014 invasions of the Gaza Strip, recently completed a US speaking tour that took him to various venues in Michigan, Indiana, and Texas.
In Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. Gilbert spoke to an audience of about 100 people at Calvin College. A Christian liberal arts college associated with the Christian Reformed Church, Calvin has previously hosted various speakers who focus on Palestine, among them Ali Abunimah, Nora Barrows-Friedman, and Mazen Qumsiyeh.
A guest of Grand Rapids-based non-profit, Healing Children of Conflict, as well as of Calvin College’s History Department and Middle East Club, Dr. Gilbert provided an astute fact-based analysis of the situation in Gaza. However, Dr. Gilbert’s presentation did not just rely on facts. It was also structured around powerful stories of Palestinian civilians whom he has met while working in makeshift operating rooms at Gaza’s Al-Shifa’ hospital.

I have no idea whether we will see a Pink Floyd concert for Palestine, but of course it is fun to dream. ]
Activists who were on board the Women’s Boat to Gaza are now in Tel Aviv’s international airport awaiting deportation, Al Jazeera reported.
